Most people install a graphics driver once and forget it for a year. That is fine until a new game launches with a stutter you cannot explain. NVIDIA tends to tune its drivers for big releases, and those tweaks can bring smoother frame times and fewer crashes.
You do not need to chase every release. A good rhythm is to check when you buy a new game, when something starts misbehaving, or every month or two. Stick to the stable branch rather than beta builds unless you have a specific reason.
Tracker sites such as TechPowerUp list the latest releases, but I always grab the actual installer from NVIDIA itself. Read the release notes first; they tell you which bugs were fixed and which known issues remain.
