NVIDIA Display Driver Not Detected: Causes and Solutions

When Windows or the NVIDIA installer says no compatible graphics hardware was found, it can feel alarming. In most cases, the card is fine and the cause is something you can check yourself.

Start with the basics: open Device Manager and look under Display adapters and Other devices. If your card appears with a warning icon, or as a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, the driver is missing or broken. Make sure you downloaded the driver for the correct GPU model. Check that the card is firmly seated in its slot and that the power cables are connected, then make sure your monitor is plugged into the graphics card rather than the motherboard.

On a desktop, enter the BIOS to confirm that the PCIe slot is enabled. On a laptop, check graphics mode settings and update the BIOS and chipset drivers from the manufacturer. If all else fails, remove the old driver with Display Driver Uninstaller and install a fresh one. If the card is still not shown anywhere, it may be a hardware fault worth testing in another PC.
