That is a stressful moment, but it is fixable. First check the cable and router lights. Then open Device Manager, right-click the adapter, and choose to roll back the driver.
If that is not available, use the saved installer of the old version. Restart the PC and test again.
A second computer or phone can help you download what you need. This is why I always keep a driver installer on a USB drive. A little preparation turns a panic into a five-minute job.
