NVIDIA Driver Installation Failed? Try These Fixes

Few things are more annoying than an NVIDIA installer that stops with the message that installation failed. The good news is that the cause is usually something simple, and most cases can be fixed without reinstalling Windows.

First, restart your PC and try again, because pending Windows updates can block installation. Temporarily close antivirus tools and background apps such as overlays and recording software. Make sure you downloaded the driver for the correct GPU and for 64-bit Windows. Re-download the file if it may have been corrupted.

If it still fails, run the installer and choose Custom, then tick the option for a clean installation. As a stronger step, boot into Safe Mode and use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove the old driver completely before installing the new one. Also check that Windows is up to date and that you have enough free disk space. If errors continue, note the exact message, since it points to the specific component that failed, and search NVIDIA's support pages for it.
