Clearing Up Crackling and Mic Problems on Realtek

Crackling, popping or a quiet microphone are common complaints. Often they come from enhancements or the wrong sample rate. In the sound settings, try turning off audio enhancements and set the format to a standard option such as 24-bit at 48000 Hz.

For microphones, check that Windows privacy settings allow apps to use it, and that the correct device is selected inside the app you are using.

If problems continue after a driver reinstall, consider whether a USB headset or small external sound card might suit you better. Onboard audio can pick up electrical noise, especially in crowded cases.
